Community Groups

As the local church, we exist to be and make disciples of Jesus. While there are many approaches to ministry, we believe that discipleship happens best in relationships where we can explore and practice the ways, the truth, and the life of Jesus together.

Our vision is for everyone who calls our church home to live with faithful presence in the gathered church (Sunday Worship) and in the scattered church (Community Groups). In Community Groups, we scatter into smaller groups that meet in homes and apartments. These groups of 8-20 adults serve as the containers of the kind of “relational discipleship” that every believer needs to walk in the way of Jesus.

Eat Together

We eat together because gathering around a table for fellowship over food is an ancient Biblical practice that helps to foster relationships. Whether it’s appetizers, drinks, meals, or desert, these groups seek to incorporate food as a way to “break bread” together.

Read Together

We read the Bible together because we believe the Word of God gives life, hope, perspective, and joy to our weary souls. Some groups utilize sermon discussion questions, others discuss books, but we always aim to connect the Scriptures to everyday life.

Pray Together

We pray with and for one another. As relationships grow over time in intimacy, authenticity, and simplicity these become rich moments. We believe the best place for us to place our cares, concerns, complaints, and praise is upon God (in community).

Getting Connected

There are two ways to get involved with Community Groups at Park Community Church. You can either (1) join an existing group, or (2) start a new group. If you are interested in joining an existing group, please fill out the Community Group Interest Form and one of our pastors will follow up with next steps. If you are interested in starting a group, we would love talk with you. Most Community Groups Leaders have been participating in prior Community Groups and they must be members of the church. However, we welcome the interest and take joy in equipping and supporting new leaders. You can fill out an initial Community Group Leader application here to start the conversation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I connect to the church?

You might be thinking, “I love that this church has groups, but how do I connect generally?” We recommend that you first join us on Sundays and then attend “Park in 10.” This 10-minute meeting after worship gives you the opportunity to learn more about the mission and values of Park Community Church. We also host “New to Park Dinner” once every few months. You can signup for the next one here.

How do your organize people into Community Groups?

The Staff Pastors work together with Community Group Leaders to place people into existing groups and start new ones. If you are a newer attender, please introduce yourself on Sunday or come to “Park in 10.” You can also fill out the Community Group Interest Form here.

Where do Community Groups meet?

The church building is located in St. Louis Park, but Community Groups can be found all over the Twin Cities. About half of our Community Groups meet near the building, but another dozen groups meet scattered across the cities: New Hope, Plymouth, Edina, Minnetonka, Shorewood, Eden Prairie, and Fridley.

What does an average Community Group gathering look like?

Each group looks different! Some groups meet all together every week. Others meet biweekly. Some meet in a rotation of mens, womens, and family nights on different weeks of the month. Each group has a trained leader and host, with most meetings last two hours.

What else can I expect from Community Groups?

Most people tend to overestimate what can happen in one evening of community group, but they also tend to underestimate what can happen in one year of community group! Many meetings will feel average, even forgettable. That’s okay. The way of Jesus is slow and relational. Community Groups may not be the best Bible study you’ve ever attended. They may not be the best prayer experience of your life. The people in them may or may not become your best friends. But one thing is for sure, faithful presence in community will change you and help you experience and practice the ways of Jesus with others.

Are children included in Community Groups?

Yes! Absolutely. Jesus himself said, “Let the children come to me” (Mark 10:14). We love having kids in Community Groups, and yet, we also acknowledge that caring for kids and discussing what’s happening in your soul can feel like a lot to juggle! Our leaders and coaches have learned a thing or two over the years of hosting groups. We would love for your whole family to be involved in community.
